Cooked
Bash...

Ray
Cook picked right up where his 2009 season left off by cooking up
a big win by taking the $10,000 to win SRRS-sanctioned Bama Bash
Sunday evening for the D&R Racing Team and crew after an early
side by side duel with Chris Wall #71.

The
dual between Cook #53 and Wall #71 went on for lap after lap in
the early go of the annual winter kick off event for the Gadsden,
Alabama area track as they split Tim Lance #48 in their own
battle.

Ronnie
Johnson #5 and Randy Weaver #116 battle for third with Weaver
leading the Flash to the line for the position.

Eric
Hickerson #98 and Casey Roberts #101 wound up in a race for 13th
and 14th respectfully.

Ronny
Lee Hollingsworth works the outside, while Jonathan Davenport #49
works inside en route to a seventh place finish ahead of
Hollingsworth.

Locals
Tim Busha #15 and Stacey Holmes #H2 find themselves going door to
door during the homestate Bash.

Defending
SRRS champion Jay Brinkley battles WoOLM regular Clint Smith, who
took a previous winners provisional to join the 28 car starting
field and rallied to a sixth place finish. Brinkley fell out and
finished 27th.

Bubba
Pollard attempted to make the Bash field but didn't put the former
Clint Smith GRT in to the 28 car field. The Senoia, GA racer is a
stand out from the asphalt ranks in the south. (Thomas

USA
vs South Africa Tour...

The
four USA racers pose with a road sign advertising their event as
the 3 week tour made a trek across the South African countryside
for round two and then back to their home away from home Worcester
for a post race ceremony honoring Lee Sutton, Wade Knowles, Riley
Hickman, Jake Knowles and Cindy Knowles for their visit and
contributions to the USA vs South Africa tour.

The
USA contingent is introduced to the crowd.

Waving
an American flag, crew leader Morne Carstens brings one of the
American rides in to the pits for use by Lee Sutton.

Jake
poses with a fan.

Always
surrounded by a crowd in the pits, Wade's #77 is prepped for action.

Father
Wade #77 and son Jake #27 display the American flag on the
quarters of their furnished rides. As did Riley Hickmans in the
above. As both the South African and USA flags were flown at the
flagstand.

The
Port Elizabeth track (stop 2) is watered and prepped for the racing.

A
mixture of Sprints, Four-cylinders, Super Late Models and winged
Modifieds take parade laps for the crowd.

Variety
in the world down under.

The
Sprints and Late Models use the traditional USA way of
counter-clock wise, while some divisions use a British approach.

Fans
be it in South Africa or a place like Dixe Speedway in Atlanta,
Georgia all love the corner speed of the Super Late Models. The USA
vs South Africa tour gave drivers and fans alike the opportunity to
display their home pride.

Late
Model action. Jake Knowles wound up winning the overall title and
two of three features. Wade wound up second in series points and
scored a heat victory during the three weekend venture.

Tiian
Louw may be South Africa's version of Jake Knowles. The 14 year
old driver of the #777 Super Late Model mixed it up with Jake and
the rest of the USA gang. A graduate of the modified 777 pictured
above, Louw looks to be the future star of the South African dirt
scene. (Cindy Knowles Photos)

Life
in the 'Ville...

What's
the old beach line I've got sand in my hair, sand between my toes
and sand in my... well you get the idea and after a
WinterNationals trip for Canadian Ricky Weiss it was a trip thru
the automatic washer to clean up the Super Late Model.

Weiss
pushed the stripped down post-Florida ride thru the automatic to
rid it of the "Clay by the Bay" and Volusia sand
leftovers from racing at both East Bay and Volusia during the
WinterNationals and Speedweeks events in Florida.
Weiss
from St.Francois Xavier, Mb (Near Winnipeg) races both a Super
Late Model and Open Wheel Modified. More on 21-year old Ricky
Weiss check out www.weissracing7.com
